ChatGPT is good. Real Good. It can not only fetch you the answers you want, help you do those routinely manual stuff and increase your efficiency as an employee.. and as a human by 1000x. Yes, you should be afraid of ChatGPT, and here's why.
However, why, amidst the reasons surrounding how powerful ChatGPT might be, its probably the last thing Google as the modern day search king will be afraid of.
No matter how almighty ChatGPT might be, there is 1 thing it can't replace that of Google. What's that?
Human Freewill
Google vs ChatGPT?
A lot of people seemed to have this misconception that Google actually does what ChatGPT actually does on the surface level. It seems like ChatGPT functions just slightly way better when it can actually spit out that 1 perfect correct answer instead of just giving you a whole bunch of data to search your answer from.
However, just like shoes and clothes, there is absolutely no 1 size fits all. How accurately ChatGPT will be able to provide us with the answers we are looking for does not just depend on how powerful it is in interpreting our wants but rather, how well we can ask it. ChatGPT will need to be able to understand not just our language, but also our behaviour, our lifestyle to give us that perfect answer.
Even by understanding us fully, ChatGPT might not be the most updated or the current one as it consistently depends on new information to be fed into its database. Google doesn't require this, Google have defined how we use the web and created a system on how it classifies and stores this database in order to quickly fetch what people wants sorted based on the needs.
The human Desire and the Quest for Exploration
Even if ChatGPT is able to shoot out that perfect answer 100% of the time, our quest for exploration and freewill can never be fulfilled. What Google does is to bring people around to different parts of the internet rather than just providing us with an answer or a solution.
Google gives us options, freewill.
We are not restricted with what we can find. Sometimes, the first result on Google might not be the one we finally decide upon. If Google, with all its historical data and abilities is not able to a give a searcher 100% correct 1st result, how is ChatGPT going to be able to consolidate all these data to give the searcher that perfect answer? Imagine having to keep asking ChatGPT again and again till the correct answer is given. Its going to be tiring to have to rephrase a question 1000 times than to scroll through 1000 search results.
On conclusion, ChatGPT still has a long way to go. However, with its fast adoption and data inputs by users, its hard to say how quickly, we may be seeing a change in dominance of this Giant. I'm not denying that possibility.
