Thinking of using GrabPay to earn Grab reward points for your large TikTok purchases? Well, let me save you some trouble.
I recently tried to purchase a PrismPlus TV Q55-QE on TikTok Shop for SGD$638.49 and saw the GrabPay option, thinking I could earn some rewards. However when i tried checking out, I received this error message when I tried to use GrabPay.
Being the usual tech geek smart alec, refusing to simply let the 1915 Grab rewards pass me by just like that, I topped up my GrabPay wallet with my credit card and tried to pay with the credits instead.
Wrong move! This was a mistake, as now my $600+ is stuck in my GrabPay wallet and I can't withdraw it back to my credit card or bank account.
If you're in a similar situation, here's are some simple steps you can take:
- Verify your account on the Grab app with Singpass.
- Apply for a GrabPay card to get your card number, expiration, and CVV (you don't need the physical card).
- Use your GrabPay Mastercard as a direct credit card to make payments on TikTok.
- You should be able to checkout easily, and your GrabPay wallet balance will be deducted as usual.
Note that you won't earn any reward points with the Grab card anymore (they changed their policy in August 2022). It's sad though, but it's better than having your funds stuck in your wallet.

New Grab Rewards Tier. |
The system still wins in the end! No credit card points and No GrabPay rewards. But at least I do not have to spend $600 on Grabfood and trips to make up for this Grabpay funds lock.
